Science & STEM
In North Tyneside we are passionate about science and recognise the importance of ensuring that STEM subjects remain high on the agenda. We have carefully put together a wide range of high quality continuing professional development opportunities for everyone involved in the teaching and learning of science. Our programmes focus upon the subject area and the reality of the classroom, as well as individual and school needs.
We have considered the needs of subject leaders, both experienced and new to the role, and our courses and networks aim to support and develop strategic leadership skills and confidence while improving subject knowledge. Many primary schools are opting for a more creative, topic-based approach. We have programmes that will demonstrate how to embed science effectively and ensure that science experiences are meaningful in cross-curricular topics. These sessions, along with our courses focusing on assessment, will be particularly relevant in the light of the new KS1 primary curriculum.
An exciting development is the new Science Learning Partnership, which is a collaboration with the national network of Science Learning Centres. The aim of the regional partnership is to broaden the scope of science CPD and reach greater number of teachers and schools through innovative initiatives from across the country. It will deliver high quality science CPD to meet local needs for science teachers, technicians, and teaching assistants across the region. Our CPD leaders are drawn from experienced educational consultants, practicing teachers and partners across the area.
